PSG Defeats Marseille in a Shootout to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the prestigious cup on fourteen separate times.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the showdown between the French league champions and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring early on.

However, the southern French side struck twice in the closing moments to seize a surprise advantage. First, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital leveler in the final moments to send the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing penalty win.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the past 13 years.
